MARVIN LEE FERGUSON

Marvin Lee Ferguson was born in Townley, Alabama on October 6, 1921. Son of Marvin Ferguson Sr. and Lula Velma Davidson, Marvin Lee enlisted in the United States Navy during the time of World War II. It was at this time that young Marvin Lee was attached to U.S.S. California, where at age 20, he was unfortunately killed in action on December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Marvin Lee was the first Walker County resident killed in action during World War II. He was buried and/or memorialized at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal posthumously.
 
Post 4850 was chartered on October 28th, 1945 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in the City of Jasper, Walker County, Alabama and named in honor of Marvin Lee Ferguson. Today, the post honors all veterans who have been deployed in multiple conflicts abroad and continues to provide service to the community of Jasper.
